Castlemorton 1992: La fi d´una era

A principis dels anys 90 fou l´època daurada de les Free Parties i Raves a Anglaterra. Col.lectius autogestionats com Spiral Tribe , Bedlam o Circus Warp congregaven a milers de joves britànics arreu del país. La concentració de Castlemorton al 1992  ( entre Anglaterra i Gal.les ) congregant més de 30.000 persones al llarg de 5 dies, va fer que el govern conservador de John Major decidís actuar enviant l´exèrcit i detenint els organitzadors de l´event. Poc desprès al 1994 el govern va aprovar la Criminal Justice Bill, legislant i prohibint aquest tipus de festes que escapaven al seu control. A partir d´aquí Spiral Tribe inicia la diàspora d´aquesta forma de vida-nòmades del techno o travellers- exiliant-se a París i escampant el seu so i les free partys arreu d´Europa. Castlemorton 1992, o el que és el mateix, la fi d´una època daurada per les free partys a Anglaterra…El començament al vell Continent.

OSBORNE-Osborne (2008)

 

Interessant proposta de Todd Osborn aka Soundmurderer ( l´ acrònim que feia servir per les seves barrabassades de Jungle i Ragga Jungle). L´artista reinterpreta sota la seva particular visió  diversos estils, disfrassats amb un vernís molt en la ona de la dècada dels 80, com el House de Chicago de vella escola, Hip House, Electro i algunes línes àcides de la 303. Un disc notable.

Here are facts I learned about producer Todd Osborn: he owns an electron microscope, flies planes, speaks Japanese and is currently finishing building a hovercraft. These sorts of playboy exploits might lead you to believe his techno exploits as Osborne are just another notch on the bedpost for this fellow, but this record serves as ample proof that he’s no dabbler. ‘Detune’ sports a synth melody that at times comes close to sounding like Depeche Mode’s ‘Enjoy The Silence’, but mostly just floats along on a cloud of blissful ’80s hedonism. Right down to the sleeve art this album displays a willingness to embrace the synth culture of twenty years ago, and the electric pianos and coarsely chopped vocals on ‘Outta Sight’ make no attempts to dismiss that. The TNT contribution (‘L8′) fires up the 303 for some great vintage acid, and then there’s the comical running commentary on the mechanics of sequencing provided by ‘Our Definition Of A Breakdown (feat. Ed DMX)’, in which Todd helpfully talks you through the various sounds that show up in his production. Lots of fun, as you’d imagine, but beyond the silliness and nods towards kitsch appeal, there’s a highly distinctive approach to old-school house and techno production that keeps the album ticking over.
